New Fund Launched to Support Greater Manchester
The We Love MCR Fund has been launched as a legacy to the I Love MCR campaign which swept the city in the wake of the recent riots.
The fund will initially open with monies donated by Marketing Manchester from the sale of I Love MCR t-shirts and is aiming to raise £1 million each year through donations from individuals and businesses who want to show their love for Manchester.
The money raised will be used to support the thousands of inspirational local people across Greater Manchester who provide positive, life enhancing things to do in their own neighbourhoods.
Forever Manchester Chief Executive, Nick Massey, said:
“The most important thing is that this is not just about one day’s celebration or about one night’s mindless looting, it should be forever.
“We must remember it was a small minority of people who got involved in the looting of the City Centre, and we want to make sure it is the local people who are doing amazing things to improve where we live, to give people positive things to do, that they are the ones who are recognised and supported moving forward.
“Government cuts have left a massive funding shortfall of at least £10 million for community run projects in Greater Manchester this year alone. If we don’t raise money to support them, they will close – and then we really will have a generation of people who have nothing to do.”
